Compatibility
What fits, and what does not.
Short version: standard everything, except the one thing that cannot be.
Fits
| Thing | Notes |
|---|---|
| Any ANSI keycap set | Standard cross mount, 19.05 mm pitch, 6.25 u space bar, 1.25 u bottom-row modifiers. The magnet is in the switch, not the cap. |
| Any operating system | USB HID. There is no driver and nothing to install. |
| KVMs and docks | It enumerates as an ordinary keyboard. The 8 kHz report rate needs a direct USB 2.0 or better connection to be delivered at 8 kHz; through a hub it will fall back and say so in BANC. |
| Other magnetic switches | Five-pin, mechanically standard. Anything with a magnet in the stem will physically fit; the calibration curve is written for ours, so re-run the per-key calibration in BANC after swapping. |
Does not
| Thing | Why |
|---|---|
| Ordinary mechanical switches | There is no contact under the switch to close. A Cherry MX will seat perfectly and do nothing at all. This surprises people, so: no. |
| Safari and Firefox, for BANC | Neither implements WebHID. The keyboard works; the configurator does not. Set it up once elsewhere — the settings live on the board. |
| Wireless | There isn't any. Why. |
| ISO layouts | Not yet. The plate and the PCB are ANSI only. We would rather say not yet than ship a compromise. |
What each board drops

No function row, no navigation block, no arrows. Sixty-one keys in 15 × 5 units.
Scroll sideways for the whole board →
The whole ANSI tenkeyless field: 18.25 × 6.25 units, eighty-seven keys, nothing omitted.
Drawn from the same layout table the eighty-seven keycaps in the renders are placed from, so what is on this page is what is on the board. CADRAN 68 is a VERNIER with the arrows and a three-key column put back; it is not drawn here because compacting that column into 16 units means re-cutting the bottom row, and an invented layout beside photographs of a real one is worse than none.
Layouts
| Board | Keys | Key fieldu | Casemm | Encoder |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| VERNIER 61 | 61 | 15 × 5 | 301.8 × 111.3 × 32 | — |
| CADRAN 68 | 68 | 16 × 5 | 320.8 × 111.3 × 32 | yes |
| ÉTALON 87 | 87 | 18.25 × 6.25 | 363.7 × 135.1 × 33 | — |
Every case dimension in this table is derived from the key field and the 19.05 mm pitch at build time, not typed in. The first draft of the product brief guessed three of these six figures, and all three were wrong.
